Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

ree

Another great day for golf last Saturday at the Grafton Golf Club, with ideal weather conditions, on a course which is in excellent condition thanks to our green staff and the volunteers whose assistance in maintaining the course is more than appreciated.

From a field of just under 100 staters, Scott Bishop (8) was one of three players who finished on top of the leader board with a very commendable 42 points and following the countback was declared the overall winner. The remaining two players with 42 were Peter Tziavaras (21) and Gary Cook (22) who were awarded the win and runner-up spots in division 3 respectively. The highlight of peter’s round without doubt, was a hole in one of the 10th which would have made his day. He almost was the winner of the Pro pin on the 1st, his tee shot finishing just 147cm from the cup, until Danny Li (5) came along and knocked him off with his shot finishing just 24cm away which gave him the Pro pin award. That would not concern Peter as he would have collected the hole-in-one jackpot award. Division one was won by Ian Langley (11) with 39 from Clint Corbett (10) with 38. Alf Groves (16) had the winning score in Division two with 40 on a countback from Matt Katon (12). On offer for all players in the ball rundown were 30 Pro balls and to secure one you required a score of 33 subject to a countback. The remaining nearest the pin awards went to Owen Hindmarsh (24) on the 17th . The pin award on the 6th is unknown as the details relating to that hole had not bee returned. The men’s event this Saturday coming will be the Holiday Coast Meats Jacaranda 4BBB Stableford that will be followed on Sunday with the mixed Jacaranda 4BBB competition.

The Saturday men’s competition was preceded by the regular midweek events commencing with Tuesday’s members/veterans’ competition which attracted a field of 85 starters, which included 76 veterans. Results in both divisions were identical. Once again, the countback process was required to sort out the various winners with three players on top with 39 points. The finishing order was Bill Dudgeon (19) named as the overall winner with Derek Latimer (16) and Peter Tracey (12) awarded the 1st and 2nd runner-up positions, respectively. Pro balls in both divisions went down to 31 for the veterans and 33 for the members. Graeme Rickwood (23) and Deano Hayes (16) claiming eh nearest the pin prizes on the 6th and 10th holes, respectively.

The Tallowood Challenge on Thursday was supported by 58 starters from which John Dahl (9) was the dominate golfer with a impressive score of 67 nett two shots clear of runner-up Jim Packwood (22) on 69 and Ralf Zaffino (15) also with 69. As a bonus for John hie also won the nearest the pin award on the 17th. The remaining pin prizes went to Brad Mostyn (9) on the 1st, Eli Fahey (9) on the 6th and Sebastian Cox (2) on the 10th. Pro balls went down to 74 on a countback
