Weekend Competition
One of the more unique golf competitions of the year, the Bolt Barn Skins event, was held last Saturday which attracted 26 teams of fur players totalling 104 individual starters. The overall team’s event was taken out by a quartet of lady golfers with a total team score of 146 Stableford points. The team comprised of Lisa Hunt (18), Janet Pilgrim (29), Mary Atkins (20) and Helen Packwod (34) were just too good on the day, clear winners over the runner-up team by two points. The mixed runner-up team was made up of Ian Langley (13), Irwin Perring (18), Tania Doyle (12) and Sue Blake (32) combining for a score of 144. As a bonus for their consistent golf, they also picked up the team Wildcard prize with a score of 40 points. In the individual scheme of things, there was no doubting the winner of this component of the event, Chris Payne (19) with a most impressive score of 48, six points clear of runner-up Ian Langley (13) on a countback from Karen Napper (27), Jim O’Donohue (8) and Mary Atkins (20). A total 11 teams shared in the available skins for which a complete hist of those teams is available for your convenience to determine if you were one of those teams, in the Clubhouse. All players appreciate the support of the Bolt Barn, who made it possible for this competition to eventuate and hopefully will continue, it is such a good event. Nearest the pin included Mick Craw (1) winning the Pro pin on the 1st, Owen Hindmarsh (23) the 6th, Elaine Shand (15) the 10th and Nick Howard (14) the 17th.
Mid-week Competition
Tuesday’s members/veterans competition continues to attract good numbers with just under 100 starters in last weeks competition. Those numbers including 87 veterans. The results were almost identical in both divisions with Jon Bellamy (11) taking out both divisions with a very good 45 points. Glen Gardner (12) tried very hard to catch Jon but finished one point in arrears to finish with 44 to claim the first runner-up spot in the two division. Second runner-up in the members went to Greg Hayes (34) and Brad Mostyn (8) for the veterans. The nearest the pin awards over each division was completely dominated by Norm Burt who claimed a total of three awards over the two divisions. They included both the “all in” 6th and 10th holes in the members and the 1st in the veterans. The remaining veterans’ awards went to Jon Bellamy (11) the 17th, Mick Craw (1) the 4th and Glen Gardner (12) the 14th. You had to play well to secure a Pro balls going down to 37 for the members and 34 the veterans.
Scores in the Thursday competition were very impressive, highlighted by the 45 points achieved by Noah Fahey (23) to easily win the event by four points over his nearest rival Tim Bartlett (3) with 41. Craig Langford (1) and Athol Green (18) were next in line with 39 with Craig recognised as the 2nd runner-up and Athol the 3rd runner-up. The nearest the pin prizes went to Graeme Filippe (11) on the 1st, Joe Fahey (7) the 6th, Stephen Tracey (16) the 10th and Geoff Crispin (18) the 17th. There were 12 Pro ball in the ball rundown going down to 34 on a countback.
Upcoming Events
A couple of September evens that may require some consideration include Grafton Veterans Open Day which is scheduled for Monday 21st . Golf action will commence with a shotgun start at 9am, the cost will be $45 per player, which includes lunch. Unfortunately, there will be no golf for the regular Monday 9-hole players on that day.
On the weekend of 26th & 27th, two events for which entries are now open. On Saturday, the competition will be the 18-hole Dennis Pye & Chris Wheelahan American Foursomes. That event will be followed on Sunday 27th with a mixed event which will take the form of a 2 Person Ambrose, which will begin with a shotgun start at 10am. Now would be an appropriate time to organise your pairings for both competitions.

You will notice there is an invitation to the Friendship Day for 23rd September attached along with today's Grafton Girls Chatter newsletter. Please forward this, or speak to any past member you feel would like to attend.
This is the day for our past members to join us for afternoon tea.
If you have already been tasked by me to personally ask someone, I need to know final numbers by this Wednesday 16th September or at the very latest on Friday 18th September.
We would also ask that members please bring a plate to share on the day.
