Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

Club Championships

The first two rounds of the Harvison Building & Design and Jacaranda Coaches 72 Hole Club and Grade Championships have ow been completed with competition in all four grades very tight at the top of the various grade leader boards. Leading at this point of time in “A” Grade (handicap range +5 to 5) is Jake Frame (+3) who put together score of 70 and 66 (total 136) to establish a substantial lead in the series. Jake is followed by past Champion, Matt McKee, with scores of 80 and 70 to find himself four shots off the lead, however, remains a strong contender, Craig Langford is next in line with a score of 147 against his name. Three players, Sebastian Cox, defending Champion Tony Blackader and Pas Champion Greg Harvison all remain in a strong position with score of 150 and no way can they be discounted in the title chase with two rounds remaining.

Just two shots separate the leaders in “A” Reserve (handicap range 6 to 11) with Randall Dow in first with scores of 80 and 77 (157). Natt Tattis got off to a strong start with 74 in the first round, but fell away a little with a 84 in his second round, however, remains in a very strong position on 158 total. Brad Mostyn also remains in a strong position with a two-round total of 159.

John Frame, father of series leader Jake, was determined to keep the family name in a prominent position by taking the lead in “B” Grade (handicap range 12 to 17) with scores of 82 and 85 (167). Andrew Sear is next with 168 followed by Andrew J. Fletcher 170.

In “C” grade (handicap range 18 to 54) Justin Tattis is the current leader with two rounds of 87 (174), however he has a real challenge behind him with Tony Daly just a single shot in arrears on 175. Both players establishing a strong position with the next player, Tony Norton following the leaders on 183 and remains a chance for Grade honours.

For the first time ever, there are trophies available in all Grades decided on a nett score basis. The leaders in the various Grades are as follows. “A” Grade, Matt McKee leads with 138 nett from Jake Frame 142 followed by Craig Langford on 145. Brad Mostyn leads “A” Reserve with 141 from Billy Darby 142 then Randall Dow 145. “B” Grade is led by Andrew J. Fletcher with 140 followed by Andrew Sear 142 with John Frame 143. Justin Tattis leads “C’ Grade with 130 one shot in front of Tony Daly 139.

Craig Woods Plumbing provided the trophies for the first round of the Championships on Saturday with Grafton Golf Club providing the trophies for the second round for Sunday. The final two rounds of the 2026 series are scheduled for this coming weekend with McKimms Real Estate and Grafton Golf Club providing the trophies. All Championship players are reminded that the final round will involve a seeded draw which will be determined following Saturday’s third round.

Week-day Competitions

The Tuesday Members/Veterans competition may have had an overall field of 67 starters with the Veteran contingent providing the bulk of the field. Dominating both divisions was Yamba’s golfer, Peter Brennan (20), with a impressive score of 40 points Peter has played a lot of golf on the Grafton course, and obviously put all that knowledge to good use, resulting in the winning score. Runner-up to Peter was Darren Hindom (22) who accumulated 39, followed by three players, Glenn Gardner (14), Steve Llewelyn (17), Stephen Castle (18) all with 37. Following the countback Glenn was awarded the 2nd runner-up spot. The “all in” nearest the pin award on the 6th went to Darren Hindom, with Brett McConnell (7) claiming the 10th. The Veteran’s nearest the pin awards went to Billy Bishop (14) the 1st, Dougie Hughes (11) the 4th, Brian Baldwin (23) the 14th and Ricky Woelfl (16) the 17th. Pro balls went down to 31 on a countback for the Veterans and 33 also on a countback for the members.

The all-important Mark Harvison sponsored Tallowood Challenge was held on Thursday with a reasonable field of 55 starters taking on the challenge. Derek Latimer (15) finished on top of the leader board with a excellent score of 67. Two players Steve Houlahan (10) and Shane Pitt (17) finished one shot in arrears to Derek with 68 picking up first and second runner-up spots, respectively. The nearest the pin awards went to Bill Dudgeon (14) on the 1st, Brad Mostyn (8) the 6th, Ben Holder (5) the 10th with Steve Houlahan (10) picking up the 17th. There were 15 pro balls on offer going down to Greg McCaughey (24) with 74.

Father’s Day Activities
