Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

Weekend Competition

There was one clear winner in last Saturday’s Grafton Golf Club’s 18-hole single Stableford, from a strong field of just under 130 starters.  The star on the day was Liam Ellis, who playing off a handicap of 22, put together a score of 41 points, which equates to 89 off the stick.  Liam recorded 18 around the front 9, which included an unfortunate wipe on the par 4 8th hole.  On the back 9 Liam recorded a strong finish to his round, recording a wipe free 23.  No doubt that healthy 22 handicap will receive a haircut as a reward for such a good round.  Three players, Koopah Walters (12), Shane Essex (11) and Frank Petty (15) all completed their rounds with 40.  For his effort Shane was named as the winner of A grade from Andrew Loy on 39.  Koopah and Frank were award with the win and runner-up spots respectively in B grade.  The results in C grade had also been determined by the countback process, with Trevor Walters (30) and Grant McLennan (34) both finishing with 37 and that was the order they finished in.  In the nearest the pin department, Andrew Loy added to weekend trophy haul by taking out the Pro pin award on the 1st.  Bill Dudgeon (15) claimed the 6th, with John Frame (10 and Rohan Hackett (2) being awarded the prizes on the 10th and 17th respectively.  Pro balls went down to 33 on a countback due to 10 players finishing on that score, with the top two players David Wilks (14) and Dave Stewart (21) on the right side of the countback.

Summer Consistency Cup

Just the one round remains in the Bendigo Bank Summer Consistency Cup which will be decided next Saturday.  B grade (12-16) currently is led by Paul Hewitt on 247 points from Kin Li (217) and Frank Perry (212).  Two players, Henri Arnold and Michael Corfe head the leader board in C grade (17-54) with 241 followed by Neville Henwood and Andrew Sear both on 216.  In A grade (+-11) John Dahl has established a seemly unbeatable lead in that grade with 240, 16 clear of his nearest rival, Alan Donaghey on 224 with Glenn Gardner next best on 222.  However, all those previous scores can change dramatically with all contenders having to drop their two worst rounds of the 8 round series in the final calculations.

Mid-week Competition

Last Thursday, the Tallowood Challenge, which is played under the stroke format was held with 63 starters taking on the challenge.  In the end a countback was required as two players, Tim Phillips (14) representing the SGAGC and Grafton’s Michael Gane (8) finishing with 71 nett.  Unfortunately for Michael he was on the negative side of the process and had to settle for 1st runner-up spot.  John Tracey (10) also had to survive a countback to claim the 2nd runner-up spot with his score of 73.  Pro balls went down to 78.  The field in the Tuesday members/veteran’s competition was reduced to just 37 keen golfers due to the preva8iling wet weather.  Scores were ultra tight at the top of the leader board with four players all finishing with 36.  In finishing order Geoff Crispin (13) was named as the winner, Matt McKee (+1) and John Frame (11) claimed 1st and 2nd runner-up positions.  Missing out on featuring in the major results was Tim Bartlett (2) who had to settle for a pro ball, together with those on 31 or better.  In the Veterans division, Geoff Crispin claimed the win from Tim Bartlett on 36 followed by Don Skarratt (22) with 34 points.  Pro balls going down to 33 with just the one player, apart from Tim Bartlett, successful in that process, Tony Gallagher (6) with that score.
