Putts "n" Pars

Putt’s ‘n ‘ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

Weekend Competition

Regular Saturday golfers should note that all Saturday competitions between now and the end of January will be single Stableford events with the Bendigo Bank Summer Consistency Trophy rounds incorporated in each event.  The one exception to the Stableford competitions will be the January Monthly Mug, scheduled for Saturday 6th January, which will be played under the stroke format with round 5 of the Bendigo Bank series also being included that day.  Last Saturday was also a Stableford competition with a slightly reduced field of 95 starters taking on the very hot, temperature wise, playing conditions.  In the end it was Neville Henwood (18) who handled those conditions better than anyone, accumulating 44 points to easily dominate the 95-man field.  Neville played very consistent golf, recording 22 points on each nine.  There were no 4-point holes in that score, however plenty of 3-point holes which contributed greatly to his final score.  The 2nd best score on the day was Scott Acton, also playing of 18, who put together 42-point total for the 18 holes which resulted in Scot taking out C grade from Rob Hull (20) by just the single point with Rob finishing with 41.  Scores were fairly tight in A grade with Eli Fahey (9) taking out that grade with 39 from Daniel Blackman (9) with 38. Paul Hewitt (16) took out B grade on a countback from Paul Starr (15) both players finishing with 39.  Just a 5cm advantage gave Gary Cook (15) the Pro pin on the 1st with his tee shot finishing just 130cm from the cup, just edging out Neville Henwood who finished 135cm adrift from the pin.  The remaining nearest the pin awards went to Rob Hull (20) on the 10th, Derek Latimer (13) on the 6th with Paul Langford (5) claiming the 17th.   Pro balls went down to 34 on a countback.

Midweek Competitions

The Tuesday competition attracted a total number of 105 players which included Veteran golfers.  The winning scores in both the members and veterans’ competitions were identical with the leading player in both divisions being Michael Gane (11) leading the field home with 42 points.  That’s the second win for Michael in the past couple of weeks, winning the Thursday competition on 30th November.  It was a terrific effort by Ray Cavanagh (37) to finish in the 1st runner-up position with a great score for the Super Vet, finishing with 41 against his name.  Sam Davison (14) was the next best with 40.  Pro balls went down to 31 in the Vets on a countback and 33 in the members also on a countback.

The Thursday competition field was also down slightly with 41 starters.  Winner on the day was Bill Dudgeon (17) with 43 from Neville Gilbert (20) with Tony Gallagher (8) being awarded the 2nd runner-up spot on 39.  Pro balls going down to 34.

Christmas/New Year Trading

The Club house will assume normal trading hours over this period, closed only on Christmas Day.  The Pro shop will also observe the same hours except for that on New Years Day will open at the later time of 10am.

Buggy Shed Security

Enough has been said regarding the security of the buggy sheds or lack off, with the theft last week of a member’s golf cart.  Club Captain, David Morgan, has requested that should any cart owner lend their cart to a friend or family member, please ensure they have a key to the buggy shed to enable the cart to be properly stored securely away and the shed appropriately locked.  All cart owners should always ensure that those sheds are securely locked at all times to avoid any repeat of last week’s problem.
