Putt’s ‘n’ Pars & The Ladies Chatter from Grafton Golf Club & Last Weeks Vets Results

Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

Our last week of golf got off to a great start last Tuesday (12th) with 81 starters in the members/veteran’s competition played in ideal golfing conditions.  The winning golfer in both components of the competition was Craig Woods (9) who did it the hard way, winning on a countback from Nick Abrahall (20), both players recording 38 points.  Craig, on many occasions in recent months has been in contention to win but always seems to just miss out on that win either by just a single stroke or by finishing on the negative side of a countback.  It was a popular win for Craig who has supported Grafton golf, not only as a player, but also as an event sponsor and at one stage of his involvement with Grafton golf served as a Club Director.  With this win finally going his way, he should now proceed to record many more.  Nick obviously claimed the 1st runner-up spot in both the members and veteran division as a just reward for his 38, followed by David Page (18) again in both divisions with 37.  There were 32 pro balls handed out to the vets on 28 or better with similar proball results for the members.  In the all-in component of the nearest the pin awards, Brad Mostyn (11) claimed both awards on the 6th and 10th holes.  In the veterans nearest the pin awards Kin Li (17) claimed both the 1st and 17th holes, Barry Godwin (19) the 14th and Brian Baldwin (22) picking up the 4th.

That event was followed on Thursday with another 18-hole Stableford in which David Morgan (14) claimed the win with 36 from Matt Katon (13) on 35 and Norm Burt (18) who recorded 34 on a countback from Trevor Townsend (18) and Tony Norton (18).  Pro balls going down to those on 30.  The nearest the pin awards went to David Wilks (14) on the 1st, Jody Parker (6) on the 6th and 10th with Matt Katon (13) on the 17th.

Saturdays event as usual was also well supported with 19 starters in Division 1, 33 starters in Division 2 with a further 46 starters in Division 3.  The overall winner on the day was Brett Paxton (16) who accumulated a good score of 40 points recording a consistent 20 on each 9, which included five 3-point holes.  Division 1 was taken out by Simon Loadsman (7) with 38 from Paul Langford (5) with 37.  A countback was required to sort out Division 2 with Craig Haase (15) and Peter Rouse (12) both recording 36 and that was the order they finished in.  Two points separated the winners in Division 3 with Mark Newman (22) claiming the top spot with 39 from Robert Bell (17) on 37.  There were 30 pro balls distributed to those with 32 or better.  The Pro pin on the 1st was taken out by Shane Essex (15).  The ever reliant nearest the pin sharpshooter, Tim Bartlett (5) took out the 6th, Michael Endean (15) on the 10th with Steven Casac (6) the star on the 17th.

Last Saturday’s competition also served as the 3rd round of the Clarnece Valley Rural and Industrial Supplies 2025 Winter Consistency Trophy, with the 4th and final round scheduled for this coming Saturday.  Leading the series currently is Dennis Pye with 100.  Dennis is followed by Dwayne Doyle with 97 closely followed by David Green 96.  The leading three players are followed by a host of players, all in contention to take out the series should any of the current top 3 players’ falter.  A complete list of all current scores is up on the notice board.

Plenty of golf action happening this week, apart from our regular weekly competition, commencing on Friday with ah Ledonne Pro Am with a large field of Australia’s up and coming young Professionals taking part, together with a strong contingent of local amateurs also competing.  Spectators are urged to come out to the Grafton Golf course to witness the Pro-Am stars at no charge for entry to the course.  That event will be followed on Saturday with the Dougherty Property 18 Hole Stableford, which will incorporate the previously postponed 1st round of the Winter Consistency Trophy to be decided.  On Sunday, the qualifier for the Keno Lets Play mixed 2 Person Ambrose will be held and those who support mixed golf are encouraged to participate.  Obviously, this is another opportunity to catch up on some more golf lost to the recent unfavourable weather.
