Putt’s ‘n’ Pars & The Ladies Chatter from Grafton Golf Club

Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

Once again not too much golf to report on this week in relation to Grafton District Golf Club, for reasons well documented over the past several weeks.  The prospects of any golf activity for the remainder of this week remains rather doubtful with the weather forecast not too promising.  However, Club officials always remain hopeful and will inspect the course on a daily basis to determine if any play is possible.  Results of those inspections will be advised through the Club’s facebook and web site, which will not only advise of course conditions, but any playing conditions which will apply, such as the use of motorised carts.  However, there was some golf possible, with a Medley event that was held on 31st July in which 61 starters challenged the difficult playing conditions and there were some reasonable scores achieved.  Just four players were able to play to handicap, the remaining golfers having a bit of a struggle, their efforts just the same should be applauded.

The winning score of the day was recorded to Justin Tattis (28) who put together an amazing 26 points around the front 9, only to fall away a little around the back 0 with 15 for his total 18-hole score of 41.  Justin’s back 9 score was not helped with a couple of wipes on 10th and 11th holes, just the same it was a very good effort.  Gary Pym (23) with a 18-hole score of 38 was awarded with the 1st runner-up spot.  Gary’s card reveals he achieved 20 on the font 9 and 18 on the back.  Very consistent golf with no wipes over the 18 holes.  A player who regularly features in the results in recent weeks, Nigel deVoogd (14) claimed the 2nd runner-up place with 18 on the front 9 and improved around the back with a further 19 for a 18-hole total of 37.  The only hole he was unable to score on was the 14th, which was a little unfortunate, but a good round of golf just the same.  In the nearest the pin department, Matt Davidson (11) claimed the 1st, his tee shot finishing 128cm from the cup.  The 6th was taken out by Aiden Langford (9).  A couple of our women golfers who took up the challenge on the day featured on the remining two holes, Kaye Murdoch (13) on the 10th and Elaine Shand (16) on the 17th.  Just for the record, the only remaining player to play to his handicap was Chris Wheelahan (14) also recorded 36 for his 18 holes and finished in 4th position overall and was the first player to receive a ro ball for that effort.  The remaining 19 pro balls on offer went down to those on 30 on a countback.

Unfortunately, that was the only competition possible, which is disappointing,  however there is not much anyone can do about the persistent wet weather.  A casualty of the prevailing condition was the Jacaranda Golf Day, which alas programmed for last Sunday, that event which was to be hosted by Jacaranda candidate, Bella Whitton, has now been rescheduled to the 17th August.  Entries for that competition remain open via INTIX and is open to all golfers and non-golfers and all ages.  As previously advised, the second round of the Veteran’s 2025 Championships has been transferred to Tuesday 26th August.  Next Saturday a 2-man Ambrose, subject to weather conditions is to proceed currently.  Those players who have qualified for the 2-man Ambrose knockout are encouraged to complete their first matches currently.  A date for last Saturday’s scheduled Monthly Mug has yet to be decided, however it will be held, if possible, sometime this month and the appropriate date will be advised as soon as possible.

Regarding the Pro shop, on the days that the curse is closed, the Pro shop will open between the hours 7am to 11am.  Normal opening hours will resume once the course re-opens.

Grafton Girls Chatter

Hi All,

It's been a miserable rainy and windy day at my house and perhaps at yours - what better time than now to grab yourself a cuppa, sit down, put your feet up, and enjoy the latest Grafton Girls Chatter.

Read all about the limited golf we managed to play this last week and what might be coming up if the course is open. There were some great results from our representatives at GIMY Day, and read about ladies playing in a competition on a Thursday no less!!

Keep those fingers and toes crossed that our course dries out soon.

Regards,

Jenny Porter
