Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

 

Weekend Competition

A very good field of 128 starters turned out for the Studdy 18-hole 2 Man Ambrose last Saturday.  It was a high-quality scoring event with just 85 strokes separating the entire field of 64 teams.  The leading pairing of Matt McKee (1) and Brayden Cameron (24) put together a gross score of 64 and following the application of their team handicap of 6.25 finished with a nett score of 57.75.  They were followed by the combination of Simon Loadsman (3) and Paul Grieve (9) who despite recording a gross score of 63 could not catch the leaders, as their team handicap of 3 was not enough, recording a 60.  One of the early favourites for the event , Sebastian Cox (scratch) and Travis Unitt (18) completed their round with a gross 65 resulting in a net 60.5, which was more than good enough to be awarded the 2nd runner-up position. 

Tim Newsome (21) produced the best shot on the 1st to claim the Pro pin, his effort finishing just 53cm from the cup.  On the 6th Michael Harris (18) put his tee shot even closer to the pin, finishing a mere 49cm away.  Karl Studd (12) onto the 10th was not too shabby finishing 189cm away.  David Green (5) proved he can play the game putting his tee shot 152cm short of the cup to claim that nearest the pin.  Fifteen teams produced a score of 65.25 or better to be awarded with a Pro ball to go home with.

Next Saturday the event will be the Clarence Valley Rural Supplies 18-hole 4BBB Stableford.  This will be the final opportunity for the regular Saturday golfers to tone their game up prior to the 72-hole Club Championship series, with the first round scheduled to commence on Saturday 22nd August. Craig Woods will be providing the sponsorship for that round with the Grafton Golf Club to sponsor Sunday round.  The final two rounds of the Championship series will be held on Saturday 29th August that round sponsored by McKimms Real Estate.  The fourth and final round to be held Sunday 30th August with the Golf Club providing the trophies.  The overall Championship series being co-sponsored once again by Harvison Building and Design and Jacaranda City Coaches .

 

Mid-week Competition

There was a total of 91 starters in the Members/Veterans Tuesday competition with the Veterans contributing most players to that number.  In the Members division it was Zac Cotton (32) who received the major portion of the prize money on offer with an outstanding score of 44 points to easily win the day.  Zac was followed by Michael Harris (18), Paul Starr (16) and Bob Fish (24) all with 40, Michael and Paul awarded the 1st and 2nd runner-up spots, respectively.

In the Veterans division Paul Starr (16) was the star with his 40 over Bob Fish (24) on a countback with Bill Heath (21) just behind that pairing with 39 on a countback from five other golfers.  The Veterans nearest the pin awards went to Brad Mostyn (8) on the 1st.  It was good to see one of the great past Champions of Grafton Golf Club, Graham Dewberry (8) return and in doing so claim the prize on the 17th.  The 2nd shot nearest the pin went to Clint Corbett (8) on the 4th and Dean Hayes (19) on the 14th.  Pro balls for the Veterans went down to 33 on a countback.  The “all in” nearest the pin on the 10th was awarded to Billy Heath (21) with Brett McConnell (9) proving he still can play the game picking up the 6th prize.  Pro balls for the Members going down to 35.

There was a total of 71 starters in the Thursday competition in which Bill Dudgeon (15) claimed the top prize with 39 points.  Just the single point in arrears to Bill was Bruce Baxter (20) with 38, from a plus 3 handicap Lismore golfer, Jack Harlen-Robertson on 37, which equates to a gross score of 68.  There were 20 Pro balls distributed going to those with 33 or better on a countback.

 

Card Index Change

A note to all male members of Grafton Golf Club, from last Monday there has been a significant change to various score card indexes, and you are requested to check those changes prior to entering your score into the computer system.  Apparently, there were no changes at this time to eh Women’s card indexes.
