Putt’s ‘n’ Pars, Ladies Chatter & Sundays Mixed Keno Qualifier

MENS VETS NEWS!

The vets committee has decided to play the second round of vets championships on September 2nd 2025 hopefully we will have good conditions this week to allow us to finally to complete two rounds

PUTTS & PARS

Once again, unfavourable weather conditions continue to create havoc with the golfing programme of the Grafton Golf Club, with no golf possible for almost the entire week. A major casualty of the inclement weather conditions was the forced postponement of the Ledonna Pro Am. Discussions are currently being held with the PSA in an attempt to try and find a future alternative date for the tournament to go ahead. As soon as the results of this discussion are known, advice will be provided via the Clubs Social pages accordingly. Another casualty of the condiions was t he qualifier for the Keno Lets Play mixed 2 ball ambrose. Obviously that event had to be rescheduled, and will now be held this coming Sunday, (31st August). If you were unable to play on the original date, the opportunity for you to play now exists.

However there was one golf event completed this week, with the regular Tuesday/Veterans Competition able to proceed as normal. There were a total of 90 p[ayers in the field of which there were 80 veterans. Results in both the members and veterans competitions were identical.

Just three points separated the top five players with Kim Li (17) on top of the leader board with 39 points, 18 around the front, backed up with a strong 21 pts around the back 9. A very god effort when considering the course conditions that prevailed at the time. Club Captain, David Morgan claimed the 1st runner up spot with 38 pts which without doubt would have resulted in substantial financial pain for his regular playing partners. David was followed by a further three players with 38 points, they were John Thompson (11), Irwin Perring (20) and Brad Moston (11), at the conclusion of the required c/b.. John was awarded with the 2nd r/up prize.

In the Veterans division N.T.P. awards, Dennis Pye (18) claimed the 1st, Scott Acton (16) on the 17th. The 2nd shot NTP on the 4th was taken out by Dan Smidt (17) with Wayne Creighton (15) awarded the prize on the 14th. The “all in” NTP prize went to Brian Hewitt (29) on the 6th and Jason Casserly (9) on the 10th. Pro balls in the vets division went down to those on 29 pts on a c/b. In the members component there were 30 pro-balls distributed to those on 32 pts or better.

The Tuesday competition was the only event possible for our men players. However the prospect of returning to some form of normality looks promising with drying conditions for the next week or so which will also give the course the opportunity to at least dry out a little.

This Friday (29th August) the Rescue Helicopter Charity day will be held. To help cater for the large number of players supporting the event, organisers are appealing to owners of Motorised Golf Carts, if possible, make their cart available on the day. If you are able to do so, contact Mark in the Pro Shop. Any assistance you can provide in this regard will be appreciated by the organisers and at the same time be helping a more then worthwhile cause.

According to the official programme book, the event this Saturday will be a 18 hole 4BBB Stableford, on this occasion sponsored by the Ulmarra Hotel. With the predicted week of sunshine, course condition will obviously improve, with little player discomfort. Cart drivers are urged to comply with any directions that may be in place which can only help the course return to its normal excellent playing conditions.
