Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club
Â
Week-end Competition
With our golf course in such great condition, it was no surprise that a tremendous field of 118 starters in last Saturday’s single Stableford event eventuated, conducted by Grafton Golf Club for the Cromack Transport 18 Hole Stableford event.
It required the countback process to be implemented to decide the overall winner with two players, Clive Taylor (15) and Brendan Cleaver (4) both completing their rounds with 40 points. At the conclusion of that process, it was Clive who was awarded the overall win for the day. Brendan, who was the winner the previous Saturday with 43 had to settle for the win in Division 1 (handicap range 3.7 to 12.6) as a consolation. No doubt the loss of one shot on his handicap because of winning last week, was the deciding factor in not being awarded back-to-back overall wins. Just the same still very consistent golf from Brendan. The runner-up position in Division 1 was awarded to Ian Langley (11) who finished with 38. The star in the Division 2 (handicap range 12.7 to 17.8) was Alfie Groves (15) who accumulated a total of 39 to just edge out David Wilks (15) with 38 and be awarded with the win. A visiting golfer from Newcastle, Callan Turnbull (17) took out the Division 3 (handicap 17.9 to 54.0) with a score of 38 surviving the countback process over Graeme Smith (18). In the nearest the pin department, it was John Dahl (8) who secured the Pro pin award on the 1st, his tee shot finishing a agonizingly 12c m from the cup, which is as close as you can get and not score an ace for such a remarkable effort. The remaining pin awards went to David Smith (10) on the 6th, Bradley Deece (8) on the 10th and Brad Mostyn (7) on the 17th. There were 30 pro balls awarded to those with 33 or better on a countback.

Mid-week Competition
The feature mid-week competition last week was the November Tallowood Challenge, sponsored by Club Professional, Mark Harvison, and played under the stroke golf format. Playing off a then handicap of just 7, Mick Carter took out the major prize with 70 nett. Mick’s score card reveals he had 40 hits on the front 9 and backed that up with a outstanding one over par 37 around the back, which no doubt made the countback to difficult to overcome by Bill Dudgeon (17) who also recorded a nett score of 70. Mick and Bill were followed by two players with a score of 71 nett, Ron Phillips (15) and Andrew Loy (6), Ron finishing on the positive side of the countback to secure the 2nd runner-up spot. There were 12 pro balls available, and they went down to 77 on a countback.
The Tuesday competition was also well supported with a strong field which included 84 Veterans. Continuing his good form of late, Craig Langford (6) took out the overall prize with 41 points. Dek Pabian (22) also had 41 but had to be satisfied with the 1st runner-up spot followed by John Daley (15) with 39. In the Veteran’s division the winners were Dek Pabian, John Daley and David Morgan (15). Pro balls for the Vets went down to 29 and 31 for the members.

Veteran’s News
Our Veteran golfers held their Annual General Meeting and Presentation Day recently at which time their committee for the ensuing year were formally elected. The Veteran committee now include Jeff Hackett (President), Graeme Smith (Secretary), Ron Baker (Treasurer), Glen Gardner (Captain) and Peter Gibbons (committee). A highlight of the meeting was the formal announcement of a $1,000.00 donation to Grafton Golf Club by the Veterans, which is to be allocated to the establishment of concrete pathways in the general area of the 4th fairway. This donation will be greatly appreciated by all members of Grafton Golf Club and will go a long way in the enhancement of the course and vastly improve course conditions, particularly in the wet. Our thanks to the Veteran’s for that donation.
