Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

With all men’s competitions conducted by Grafton District Golf Club, there is in conjunction, a nearest the pin competition on each of the par 3 holes. At times, a player may pick one or two of the prizes awarded on those particular holes, very rarely three holes and almost never all four holes. In last weeks Thursday competition there was an extraordinary occurrence in which one golfer, Peter Johnston (12) picked up three of the nearest the pin holes prizes, one of those holes, the 1st Peter achieved every golfers dream, a hole in one. Peter also picked up the prizes on the 6th (328cm), and the 17th (240cm). On all four of the par 3 holes, Peter accumulated a total of 13 Stableford points which obviously was a major contribution to his 18-hole total of 34 points. As an added bonus, Petr also qualified for the hoe-in-one bonus prize of $750. That bonus prize will now revert to the starting amount of $250 and will progress through to $1,000 maximum if not won in the meantime. The remaining nearest the pin on the 10th on that day was awarded to Aiden Langford (10). The winners of the Thursday competition were Wayne Creighton (16) with 44, Runner-up was Kin Li (16) 40, followed by Bruce Baxter (21) with 38 on a countback from Kevin Essex (26), Aiden Langford (10) and Gary Pym (21).

Last Saturday the event was the McKimms Real Estate Monthly Mug, played under the Stroke format of golf competition. It was a visiting golfer from Coraki Golf Club, who won the event with a score of nett 67, that was Michael Harris who enjoyed a 29 handicap. However, being a visitor was not eligible for the Monthly Mug. That honour went to Grafton’s Brett Paxton (16) with a nett 68, which also qualified him for the win in division 2 from Matt Katon (13) with 69. Division 1 was won by Matt Davidson (11) with 70 on a countback. It was good to see Matt feature in the results as it has been a while since his last major win. Runner-up to Matt was Rohan Ford (4) also with 70. Gary Pym (23) was the winer of division 3 with 71 from Bill Heath (23) on 74. Sharpshooter, Tim Bartlett (5) was the winner of the Pro pin on the 1st, Brett McConnell (10) picked up the 6th with John Frame (14) cleaning up the remaining 2 pins on he 10th and 17th. There were 35 35 pro balls distributed to those on 78 or better.

There were 85 starters in Tuesday Members/Veterans competition with the results identical in both divisions. Ted Strong (3) was the dominant player in those divisions with 64 from Derek Latimer (17) on 67 followed by Kin Li (17) with 68. Pro balls in the members competition went down to 75 for the members and 77 for the vets division both on a countback.
