Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club
Weekend Golf
Despite the chance of rain and with a large contingent of regular Saturday golfers away on the Virginia trip, a good field of just under 100 players contested Saturday’s 18 hole single Stableford. Scores on the day were of a fairly high standard, with two players at the top of the leader board on 41 points. Following a countback, Luke Worthing (19) was announced as the overall winner with his card revealing a score of 18 points around the front which was backed up by a countback crushing 23 around the back 9. Also with 41 and on the negative side of the countback was Josh Donohue (20) who was recognised as the winner in ‘C’ grade from Gary Cook (21) who came close to taking out that grade with an impressive score of 40. A total of 28 players made up the field in ‘A’ grade from which John Dahl (9) was the star with 39 against his name from a Yamba visitor, Nigel Holliday (8) who also recorded 39. In ‘B’ grade it was Robert Perl (14) who got the cash with a very good score of 38 points, just the single point in front of runner-up, Brodie Boorman (12) with 37. Trevor Lascelles (17) got his round underway with a positive start capturing the Pro pin prize on the 1st by putting his tee shot just 143cm from the pin. That was obviously the highlight of his day, completing his 18 hole campaign with 29 points. In the remaining nearest the pin contests, Aaron Hancock (17) won the 6th, on the 10th it was Owen Hindmarsh (25) holding out John Frame (13) to claim the prize, with Terry Sampson (13) easily securing the prize on the 17th. Pro balls for the day going down to 35 or better.
Weekday Golf
Last Tuesday’s members competition a visitor from Safety Beach, Harley Cheetham (16) took out the major prize from a field of 80 players (67 veterans) with a score of 39 points. Also with 39 was Bruce Baxter (21) who was awarded the 1st runner-up trophy. Next in line was Neville Higham (18) who coasted home with a stress free 38. Pro balls awarded to players on 33 or better. In the Veterans Medley event, which is held in conjunction with the members competition, the results were almost identical to the main competition. In this circumstance Bruce Baxter claimed the win over Neville Higham with Brad Mostyn (21) the 2nd runner-up with a score of 37 on a countback from Kieran Walsh (14). Pro balls for the Veterans also going down to 33 points.
Thursday’s competition was also well represented with almost 50 players taking up the challenge. Recording the best score for the entire week of golf was Maungatane Tapp (25) who completed his round with a more than outstanding 45 points to easily secure the victory. Jason Casserly (8) would have thought he had the winning score with his 43, however he was relegated to the 1st runner-up spot. Kingsley Smith (10) was next best, 4 points in arrears to Jason with 39. David Morgan (13) and Peter Sinclair (9) followed the winning trio with 38. Pro balls going down to 35 points.
