To our Members,
Just a quick update on what’s been happening out on the greens and around the course.
Greens and Dry Patches
When we change holes, we inspect about 250mm down into the soil to check moisture levels. It’s a great way for us to decide whether the greens need watering.
You may have noticed some dry patches recently—that’s caused by the soil repelling water in certain areas. On Monday, we applied a surfactant to help fix this. It breaks down that water resistance so moisture can soak in properly again and get the turf back on track.
Fairways
Last week, we pulled the fairway decompacter out of storage and gave it a test run Monday morning - you might’ve seen it in action on the 4th fairway. Unfortunately, it broke down shortly after we started. Big thanks to Bill, who came out yesterday afternoon to help us assess the issue. We’re now sourcing a replacement part so we can get back to decompacting as soon as possible.
Why Decompaction Matters
Here’s why we are going to the trouble of decompacting fairways:
1) Improves root growth – Looser soil lets roots grow deeper and stronger.
2) Enhances drainage – Helps water soak in rather than pool or run off.
3) Boosts oxygen flow – Roots need air, and aeration helps deliver it.
4) Reduces turf stress – Relieves pressure from foot and cart traffic.
5) Supports fertiliser effectiveness – Nutrients reach the roots more efficiently.
Thanks again for your support while we keep the course in top shape. We appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing you out there enjoying it.
