Putts and Pars GDGC

Last Saturday at the Grafton District Golf Club, a good field of 119 starters took on the challenge of an 18 hole single stableford competition. John Pepper, playing off a handicap of 31 completely dominated the field with a more than outstanding score of 46pts. Despite recording a wipe on the 6th, John completed the front 9 with 22pts and backed that up with a blemish free 24pts on the 2nd nine. Just for the record, John achieved seven 3pt holes in his 46pts effort. No doubt there will be a substantial downward adjustment to his handicap as a reward for his good golf.

The 2nd best score on the day was recorded by Greg Hayes (35) who accumulated a commendable 43pts for which he was awarded the win in Division 3. Runner up in that grade was Chris Lambeth (23) with 41pts.

Scores in division one were of a high standard with Paul Grieve (10) on top of the leader board with 42pts. Just a single point in arrears to Paul was Brendan Cotton (9) with 41pts. Wayne Cotton (13) cleaned up division 2 with 40pts, establishing a 2pt margin from the runner up in that grade, Geoff Howard (17) with 38pts.

In the NTP department, Terry Bowe (11) was the sharp shooter of the day, picking up two awards on the 6th (320cm) and the 17th (108cm), William Cameron (21) earned the prize on the 10th with his tee shot finishing 158com from the pin. The Pro Pin on the 1st was unfortunately not won as the claimant did not qualify for the award. All players are reminded not to put their names on the NTP card if they have not correctly nominated by paying the appropriate fee.

There were 30 Pro balls available on the day, and they went down to those on 34pts on a c/b.

The Thursday competition was reasonably well supported with almost 60 starters taking part. Tony Rose (23) put together the round of his life with an exceptional score of 46pts. As a result of such good golf, Tony not only got the top prize, but he was awarded with a 5 shot reduction to his handicap. Seven points in arrears to Tony was the runner up, Dean Carroll (14) with 39 pts. Terry Savage (26) was awarded the 2nd r/u spot with 38pts. Daniel Blackman (8) obviously had his radar locked in, claiming the NTP awards on both the 6th and 10th holes. Greg Harvison (1) claimed the 1st with Brendan Cotton (9) picking up the award on the 17th.

The Tuesday competition attracted a field of 88 starters which included 79 veterans. The members division was won by Billy Darby (12) with 41pts from Leon McPhee (10) with 40pts, followed by Lachlan Pitt (34) with 39.

In the Veterans division, Leon McPhee (10) was declared the winer with 40pts from Ed Florez (33) on 39pts. Geoff Shepherd (25) was awarded the 2nd r/u spot for the Vets with 38. Pro balls for the veterans went down to 31 on a c/b and 33pts for the members.
