Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club
Weekend Competition
Last Saturday, Grafton Golf Club hosted the Hanks Kitchen 18-hole single Stableford with a field of 125 players taking part. The overall winer on the day was Gary Nichols (22) who put together a tidy score of 41 points, 20 on the front 9 with a further 21 around the back 9, without a single blemish on either 9 which is a good consistent round, deserving the win. In division one there were 52 starters from which Greg Harvison (scratch) was the leading player, with a total of 39 against his name, which included 5 birdies and that equates to a gross score of 69, 3 under par. Runner-up was Simon Loadsman (8) with 38 on a countback from Jake Frame (+3), Jason Casserly (9) and Kin Li (12). Division two had 33 starters with three players on top of that division, all finishing with 37 and at the conclusion of the countback process, the win was awarded to Terry Brooks with Kieran Walsh (18) and Ron Phillips (15) claiming the 1st and 2nd runner-up spots respectively. Scores were very tight at the top of the Division three players, with Frank Petty (19) the eventual winner with 38. Frank was followed by Zac Cotton (38) and Dek Pabian (22) both with 37. The nearest the pin awards went to Andrew Sear (10) on the 1st, Matt McKee (1) the 6th, Terry Brooks (13), the 10th Andrew Connor (14) the 17th. Pro balls going down to 34 on a countback.
Mid-week Competitions
The weekend competition was preceded by the normal mid-week competitions with some outstanding scores recorded. On Tuesday in the Member/Veteran competition which included the 2nd and final round of the Veteran Championships. There were 92 starters overall and you had to be better than good to win a trophy. The star on the day was Brian Napper (12) who put together one of the best scores of the year with 64 nett against his name. That score of 64 was just two shots clear of the runner-up, Bruce Baxter (21) with 66. Bruce was followed by three players, Dean Hayes (18), Michael Gane (10) and Colin McLachlan (26) all on 67 and that was the order they finished in following the countback. There were 85 Veterans in the field and the results in both the members and veterans’ divisions were identical. Pro balls in the members went down to 75 and 77 in the veterans.
The Thursday competition numbers were down slightly with 48 starters taking part. At the end of the day it was Peter Tracey (11) who received the top prize with 39 points from Daniel Blackman (8) on 38, followed by David Morgan (13) with 37. Billy Blanch (12) dominated in the nearest the pin awards taking out both the 6th and 17th with Craig Langford (+1) on the 1st and Dan Smidt (15) the 10th. Pro balls went down to 33 on a countback.
Veterans Club Championships
The 36-hole 2026 Veteran Club Championships were concluded last Tuesday with Greg Harvison (scratch) putting together two rounds of 74 and 74 for a total of 148 from Brian Napper on 154. Division 2 went to Dean Hayes with 168 from Norm Burt on 172. Bruce Baxter was the leader in Division 3 with 186 from Colin McLachlan on 189. In the handicap division of the Championships, Michael Gane was the leader in Division 1 with 139 nett from Ian Langley on 141. Division 2 went to Dan Smidt with 138 from Mark Robson 140. Noel Reeves was the nett winner in Division 3 with 144 from Kevin Essex on 145 on a countback from Rod Masen and Andrew Fletcher.
Friday Open Medley Competition
The numbers in the Friday medley competition continue to improve in this newly introduced competition with 24 players taking part last Friday on the back 9. Scores were tight at the top of the leader board with Lydon Ross the leader on the day with 23 points. Lydon was followed by Peter Mazoudir on 22. Both these players had better check their handicaps when next playing. Next in the line was Braydon Cameron with 20. Pro balls going down to 18. There wll be no medley competition this coming Good Friday as both the Pro shop and Clubhouse and Course will be closed accordingly.
Easter Trading Hours
Club closed on Friday, Club raffles rescheduled to Thursday night. Bar Trading Saturday and Sunday 8am to 6.30pm. Restaurant closed Saturday. Normal hours Monday. Competition scheduled for Saturday and Medley event on Monday. The Pro shop closed Good Friday, normal hours Saturday, Sunday & Monday.

On Tuesday 31/3/26 we had 59 players with Ron Phillips winning with a solid 41 points followed by Ian Langley 40 points on a count back from Noel Hayward on 40 points

Mens 2026 Vets Championships Results
The results are in for the 2026 Men’s Veterans Championships.
Thank you to all players who contested our championships. Over the past two weeks we had a total of 177 members participate, with 102 golf balls awarded over the two rounds. An outstanding level of support for our championships. Well done everyone.
