Putt’s ‘n’ Pars for Grafton Golf Club

ree

A feature of all the men’s competitions at Grafton Golf Club the past week or so, has been continuation of the outstanding scores achieved by the various winners. It all began with Craig Langford (5) early December with 45 points, that was followed by Aiden Langford (8) on 6th December with 69 nett in the December Monthly Mug. That high scoring phenomenal continued in last Tuesday’s Member/Veteran competition with Dean Hayes (20) dominating the 83-man field with 44 points against his name. The field included 78 Veterans, with the results in both the member and veteran divisions identical. Runner-up with 41 was Gerry McMullan (19) followed by Owen Hindmarsh (26) also with 41. Obviously, the course being in such great condition encouraging more run is more than helpful for the longer handicapped golfers. The veteran nearest the pin awards went to Brett McConnell (6) on the 1st, Peter Rouse (10 on the 4th and in the “all in” holes Mick Carter on the 6th and Matt Katon on the 1st. To earn a Pro ball in the Veteran’s you required 31 on a countback and 33 in the members also on a countback.

With a smaller than normal field of 33 starters in the Thursday competition a visitor from Woolgoolga, Michael Johnson (18) finished on top with 41 points, next in line with a excellent 39 was Karl Studd (17), followed by another Woolgoolga player John Thompson (14) with 36. The nearest the pin on the 1st was awarded to Matt Katon (10) and on the 6th Ron Phillips (15). Pro balls to 34 point or better.

The best score of the week was recorded by Rick Woelfl (21) in Saturday’s competition with a more than outstanding 45 points completely dominating a reduced field of 68 starters. Ricky was consistent recording 23 on the front and 22 on the back despite having a wipe on the 12th hole. It required a countback to decide both division one and division two winners with all four players in both divisions recording 38. At the conclusion process it was Mick Craw (2) who was the winner in division 1 from Justin Rainbow (10). John Daley (15) was awarded the win in division wo from Terry Bowe (14) scores in division three were a little clearer with Irwin Perring (20) topping the leader board in that grade with 37, two points clear of Craig Heaslip (24) with 35. In the nearest the pin department Brad Mostyn (6) was the Pro pin on the 1st, Mick Craw (2) was awarded the 6th on the 10th it was Danny Li (5) who got the cash with Terry Bowe (14) picking up the 17th. There were 30 Pro balls on offer, and you required 31 or better to earn one on a countback. Regarding the declaring the distances achieved on the nearest the pin cards, the Club Captain has requested that those distances be shown as “cm” and written clearly so those results can be easily identified. It was the circumstances last Saturday when the results on two of the pin cards were not identifiable clearly enough and could not be considered for the appropriate award.
