Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

A bit more golf action this week for Grafton Golf Club members, with two men’s competitions possible, which is a big improvement over more recent time.  The golf action got underway last Thursday with a 18-hole single Stableford in which there were 53 starters.  Two golfers finished on top of the leader board with scores of 38 points.  They were Ron phillips (14) and Billy Blanch (12) with Ron acknowledged as the winner on the day, with Billy having to settle for the runner-up position, following the countback.  Just the single point in arrears to the two leaders was Norm Burt (18) who accumulated a healthy score of 37 to take out the 2nd runner-up spot.  There was a total of 20 Pro balls on offer for the day, with Nigel de Voogd (14) leading that bunch of golfers with 35, balls then going down to those on 29 with Gerry McMullan (18) securing the first Pro ball for that group.  The nearest the pin awards were as follows, Michael Gane (11) on the 1st, Paul Danvers (14) claimed the 6th with Terry Brooks (18) taking out 10th. The 17th was won by Andrew Sear (12).

Saturday the Studdy 18 Hole 2 Man Ambrose, which resulted in 100 players taking part.  It too two of our younger players, Willow Harris (Plus1) and Sebastian Cox (2) with 63 strokes to get around the 18 holes which resulted in a nett score of 62.75, following the application of their extraordinary handicap of just 0.25.  These fine young players were ultra consistent, recording 31 around the front 9 and backed that up with 32 round the back.  The combination of Billy Blanch (11) and Jakob McDonald (13) secured the 1st runner-up spot with a nett score of 54 on a countback from Bob Chapman (40) and Michael Craw (4).  The team handicap of 11 for Bob and Michael not just enough to overcome the score of Billy and Jakob whose team handicap was just 6.  For the record Billy and Jakob had a gross score of 70 with Bob and Michael recording 75 for the 18 holes.  No doubt a contributing factor in Billy and Jakob’s score was a hole in one achieved by Jakob on the 10th hole.  Unfortunately for Jakob he was not eligible for the hole in one bonus being a visiting golfer from Maclean.  The remaining nearest the pin awards went to Simon Loadsman (7) on the 1s, Luke Worthing (16) the 6th, Andrew Loy (6) the 17th.  Pro balls went down to teams with scores of 68 or better.

On Friday 22nd August Grafton Golf Club is to host the Ledonne 2025 Pro Am with a large field of both golf Professions and local amateurs taking part.  To help with the successful conduct of the event, spotters are required, which will without any doubt ensure the pace of play.  If you can assist in this regard, advise Mark Harvison in the Pro shop who will allocate an appropriate hole to you.  This is a very important event in the Grafton Golf Club program, and any assistance members can provide will be greatly appreciated.

On Monday 25th August, Golf Manufacturer Callaway in association with the Grafton Golf Club Pro shop will be holding a fitting day in which Callaway will have available the latest in their range of golfing equipment.  This is a great opportunity to try out the Callaway product without any obligation.  The times for the activity will commence at 9am and conclude at 1pm and participants must make an appointment, via the Pro shop to secure a spot in the program.

With no rain forecast for the next week or so, maybe we can now resume out normal golf program.  This coming Saturday, the men’s competition will be the Tomsys Timbers 18 hole single Stableford.  The event will also incorporate a round of the Clarence Valley Rural & Industrial Supplies Winter Consistency trophy.
