Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

Again, not to much to report on this week, with the inability to open the Grafton District Golf Club course, due to the continuing adverse weather conditions.  There was a glimmer of hope of play last Saturday, unfortunately however , that was unable to proceed.  That was despite the efforts of many of our volunteers, who turned up last Friday with their ride-on mowers to prepare the course for play on Saturday.  The volunteers, together with the outdoor staff did a mighty job in those preparations and because of their efforts, play on Saturday was possible, although with restrictions.  However, it was not to be, as on Friday night the course was subjected to a further 20mls of rain, which ruined the hopes of those willing to play on Saturday.  The outlook this week does not look too bright with more rain predicted for the early part of the week.  However, we live in hope of the possibility of some play at weeks end with drier conditions predicted.

For the latest on course conditions, refer to the Club’s social pages for that information as the course will be subjected to daily inspections in the hope of some possible play.

In the meantime, however, golfers do have the opportunity to improve their play on and around the greens with the introduction of a chipping and putting competition conducted daily, when the course is closed.  This innovation was first introduced last Wednesday and proved fairly successful with several players taking the opportunity to participate, with those taking part declaring the idea a great success.  The chip and putt course is set up around the three practice greens with the competition open to both men and women golfers.  The competition runs between the hours of 10am through to 3pm.  The 13-hole competition is light on rules with just the two clubs only, obviously your putter and whatever you chip with.  It is preferred that golf shoes are worn.  The entry fee is $5 per round with that money distributed as cash prize to the various winners daily.

Open Hours

Clubhouse - Whilst ever the course is closed the Clubhouse operating hours will be 10am through to 3pm approximately.  Normal operating hours will be reinstated as soon as the course reopens.  The Club will still retain normal hours on a Friday regardless of weather.  For any enquiries phone 66 422255.

Club Bistro & Grill – There will be no change to the operating hours of the Bistro.  Lunch is available Tuesday to Saturday 11.30am-2pm.  Open for dinner Wednesday to Saturday 5.30pm to 8pm with breakfast available each Sunday from 8.30am to 11.30am.. For bookings telephone 66 422255.

Pro Shop

Obviously, the Pro shop hours are restricted at times the course is closed.  However, Mark will open at 8am and close at approximately 10am for sales and repairs to golf equipment.  Unfortunately there will be o lessons available whilst ever the course remains closed.  For any Pro shop enquiries phone 66 425413.

Footy Tipping Competition

One thing the weather cannot influence is the Club’s footy tipping competition.  There has been a significant change on the leader board with Andrew Barrett establishing a outstanding lead with 127, with 114 Neil Hayward and 4Pete are currently in joint second place.  Still plenty of opportunity for those out of the top three to mount a challenge to the leaders with 14 rounds remaining.
