Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club 10/06/2025

Unfortunately, there has not been any golf possible this week on the Grafton District Golf Club course, however there is a slight glimmer of hope that play may be able to proceed sometime this week.  If you can believe the weather forecast, this month there will be no or little rain which will give a slight chance of the course drying out, which should allow play, although with conditions.  For up-to-date details relating to those course conditions, refer to the Club’s social pages where you will find the latest course updates, specially in regards to the use of motorised carts.

Regardless if there is any golf or not, the Club, Club bistro will trade as normal as will the Pro shop, although the Pro shop hours maybe subject to the possibility or not of any possible play.  However, through out this period of course closure, the introduction of a daily chip and putt competition has proven to be very popular and has been well supported by golf club members.  The chip and putt competition has given all members the opportunity to tune up that aspect of their game, and at the same time allow limited support to the Club and especially the club Bistro, which has attracted large number throughout this time, allowing a great time for socialising.

Coming Event

An opportunity to catch up on the lost golf activity exists with the Clarence Valley Relay for Life Fundraiser.  Originally scheduled for early May will now be held on Sunday 29th June.  This event, hosted by Grafton Golf Club and supported by Loving Life FM 103.1, NSW Cancer Council and Clarence Valley Imaging will take the form of a 4 person Ambrose and is open to golfers of all standards, as well as non-golfers.  The cost will be $45 per player and will include a sausage sandwich as well as your golf.  As well as the Ambrose competition, players will have the opportunity to contest the Clarence Valley Imaging shootout competition with a prize of $500 on offer.  The golf activities will commence with a shotgun start at 10am with the shootout to take place at the completion of play.  To register your team for the event just phone Mark Harvison at the Pro shop on 44 622255.  Not only will you have a fun day of golf, but you will be supporting the NSW Cancer Council and the great work they do for the community.

Veteran News

With the lack of any golf, out Veteran golfing fraternity have had a lean time of it and do miss the social element of their game as well as the game itself.  However, they can show their support and pride for their involvement with the Veterans, with the purchase of the official 2025 golf shirt.  For just $28, these shirts which are subject to a limited offer are now available with the appropriate purchase form on the Vets notice board, which will allow for your name, shirt size and payment.  As previously mentioned, this is a limited offer, therefore get your names in early and avoid any possible disappointment.

Hopefully we should see some golf action, this week and into the future.  We have a full programme for July, which not only included the postponed Club Championships, but also events coinciding with the July races (Herron Cup, Herron Stakes).  Also scheduled for July is the women’s 61st May Tournament, which had to be rescheduled also from the original May date due to the prevailing weather conditions at that time.  A lot of catching up to do in regard to our entire golf programme, no doubt that anticipated dry times will assist in the catch-up phase of that programme.
