Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf Club

Grafton District Golf Club has a new Club Champion following the completion of the Grag Harvison Building & Design and Jacaranda City Coaches 2025 72-hole Championship series.  Leading from start to finish in the series, Tony Blackadder (scratch) completed the competition with rounds of 72,72,76,77 for a total of 299.  So dominate was Tony’s effort that he established a nine-shot margin to his nearest competitors to easily take out the title for the first time in a golf career spanning many years of trying.  There was never any doubt that he would capture the title at some stage from the moment he took the game up as a junior with the Grafton Golf Club many years ago and this result is a just reward for his support of Grafton golf both as a player as well as a competition sponsor during that time.  Following Tony were two past Club Champions, Matt McKee (scratch) and Greg Harvison (scratch) with both players recording score of 306.  Greg and Matt tried very hard to catch the flying Blackadder but were unable to breach the gap established by Tony despite his slowing down in Sunday’s final round.  Matt was formally recognised as the runner-up in the Club Championship.

The ’A’ Reserve grade champion for 2025 was Mark Hackett (10) with a gross score of 339.  This grade being established to cater for golfers in the 7.6 to 11.6 handicap range just for the Championship series.  Again two players finished with scores of 340, Mate Tattis (8) and Damin Blair (10) with Nate eventually named as runner-up, following the countback process.  Results in Grade 3 were very much closer with just the single stroke separating the winner and runner-up.  This grade which caters for golfers within the 11.7 to 17.7 handicap range was won by Andrew Sear (12) with a score of 345.  Craig Woods (11) had to settle for the runner-up position with his score of 346.  Next in line behind these two was David Morgan (14) with 358.  In grade 4 for players within the handicap range of 17.8 to 54.0 there was a clear winner with Nigel deVoogd (17) successful with a score of 373, 11 strokes clear of the grade runner-up Billy Bishop (17) with 382 from Dennis Pye (18) with 383 total.

One of the up-and-coming golfers of the Grafton Golf Club and with out doubt a Club Champion of the future, Sebastian Cox (4) was the winner of the overall nett component of the series with a nett score of 287 from Tony Blackadder on 295.  A great result for this young player.  For a complete run down of all the relevant results of the Championship series, refer to the men’s official result sheets located at the Club notice board.  Congratulations to all the various winners in the Championship series and especially to the series sponsors as well as sponsors for the last two Championship rounds last weekend, Craig Woods Plumbing and Naeco Blue Seafoods.  We should also acknowledge the efforts of our outdoor staff for the excellent presentation of the course throughout the entire series in sometimes very difficult conditions.

The Premier golf competitions continue this coming weekend with the 72-hole 2025 Lion Nathan Herron Cup competition.  This particular series is one of the feature events of the Grafton Golf Club annual program and attracts golfers from all over the Clarence Valey and Northern NSW regions as well as areas of Queensland.  As far as future Championships are concerned out Veteran golfers will be having their 2025 series on Tuesday 22nd and 29th July.  Nominations for that series are now open.  For further details relating to this competition contact any member of the Veteran’s committee.
