Putt’s ‘n’ Pars from Grafton Golf

Last weekend Grafton Golf hosted one of its feature golf tournaments of the year the 77th 36 Hole Jacaranda Men’s Open Cup and despite the threat of intermittent rain showers, record fields were achieved on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday there were 163 starters and that number was supported by a further 135 starters on Sunday. Those numbers boosted no doubt by a large contingent of golfers from both Virginia and Armidale Golf Clubs, together with golfers from all over the Northern Rivers and Southeast Queensland Golf Clubs.
Overall results: The standard of play in the two divisions of golfers was exceptional and in the overall scheme of things Coffs Harbour representative Matt McKee (scratch) was the overall 36-hole gross winner with rounds of 68 & 72 (140 total). The runner-up spot in the gross event was Grafton’s Sebastian Cox (1) with scores of 77 & 71 over the two days. In the nett component for the two days Grafton’s Jon Bellamy (9) finished on top of the leader board with 138 on a countback from another Grafton star golfer Craig Langford (7).
Saturday results: The division one gross winner was Jake Frame (+3) representing Burleigh Heads Golf Club with a score of 70. The division two gross winner was Grafton’s Paul Hewitt (15) with 82. The nett results on Saturday reveal Aiden Langford (10) as the winer of division one with 67 with a score of 69 Dek Pabian (23) was the winner of division two.
Sunday results: Current Grafton Club Champion, Tony Blackadder (1) was the gross winner of division one with 75 with Grafton Golf Club Manager, Michael Kinahan (15) claiming division two with 86. The division one nett winner was James O’Donohue (8) with 68, Richard Maguire (24) finished on the positive side of the countback process to win the division two with 69. For a complete list of all the trophy winners over the two days, refer to the official winners list on the Club notice board as there are far too many to recognise in this report.
Monthly Mut & Golf Mug Playoffs
The Saturday 18-hole component of the 36-hole Jacaranda Open also incorporated the November Mug competition as well as the Golf Mug playoffs for the 2024/2025 Monthly Mug series. The Golf Mug on this occasion was won by Graeme Smith (19) with a score of 68. A grade was won by Craig Langford (7) also with 68. The B grade winner was Pul Grieve (13) with 73 with Max Forwell (11) the C grade winner with 73. The 2025/26 Monthly Mug series also commenced on Saturday in which Aiden Langford (10) took out A grade with 68, Andrew Connor (14) was the leader in B grade with 70 and C grade, Graeme Smith (19) was successful in taking out that grade with 68.
Coming Events
Next Saturday’s men’s competition will be the Corrie & Dean Hayes 18 Hole American Foursomes. That event will be followed with a 18-hole Stableford on Saturday 15th November with a single Stableford, the field on that day will be depleted slightly with several of our regular Saturday players travelling up to Armidale for the return inter-club challenge.
Veteran’s News
All Grafton Veteran golfers are advised that your Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Sunday 16th November to commence at 10am. At that time, all trophy presentations will be made and at the same time the election for the Veteran’s Committee for the ensuing year will be held. Nominations for those positions have now closed with not all positions filled at this time. Those Committee positions which remain vacant will no doubt be filled at that meeting. For anyone who would like to serve on the committee this will be a good opportunity to make yourself available to assist with the conduct of Veteran’s golf for the next twelve months.
