ree

Former Grafton Golf Club Champion, Greg Harvison further enhanced his outstanding Golf career, by winning the 2025 N.R.G.A Veterans Championship. Hosted by the Byron Bay Golf Club. This Championship win was the third successive time Greg has captured the title which would ensure his reputation as one of the elite Veteran Golfers in the N.R.G.A Region. Congratulations Greg on your continuing dominance in Veterans golf for the Region, keep it up.

On the local golf scene, the Grafton Golf Club conducted a 18 hole single stableford last Saturday with a slightly reduced field than normally taking part, just the 81 players, due largely to a fairly big contingent of Grafton Golfers travelling to Armidale for an inter-club challenge.

The was no disputing the winner on the day, Brenden Cleaver, who plays off a 5 handicap, completely dominating the field with a great score of 43 pts, 21 pts around the front 9, supported by a further 22 pts on the back 9.

In Division one, Craig Langford (6) produced the 2nd best score on the day with a score of 40 pts against his name. Craig also added the Pro-pin prize to his weekend prize tally by taking out that award on the 1st. Runner up in that division was Allen Donaghey (11) 4 points in arrears to Craig, with a handy 36 pts.

Terry Sampson (12) was the clear winner in Division 2 with 38 pts from Peter Johnson (12) with a commendable 36 pts against his name.

It was a more than popular win in Division 3, with Dennis Pye (18) claiming that division win, recording a healthy 37 pts. It has been a while since Dennis has featured prominently in the results, and is more than a just reward, not only as a regular player, but also as an event sponsor on a couple of occasions throughout our yearly golf programme. Following Denis was Gary Pym (20) who accumulated an impressive 36 pts, just missing out on displacing Dennis from the top spot in that grade.

Craig Langford has already been acknowledged as the Pro Pin wins n the NTP component of the Saturday Competition. The remaining NTP awards went to Mich Craw (3) on the 6th,Craig Woods (8) continues to claim more NTP awards on the. M par 3’s by taking out the 10th, his accuracy once again confirmed with his tee shot finishing 49cm from the cup. Matt Beetson (6) was also reasonably close on the 10th, 137cm past the cup. There were 30 pro balls on offer, and you needed to have recorded 31 pts or better to secure one.

There were 86 starters in the Tuesday Members/Veterans competition with 4 players finishing on top of the leader board with 39 pts. Following the required c/b Jason Casserly (12) was awarded the win over David Page (17) and Matt Dougherty (15) who was awarded the 1st and 2nd R/U spots respectively. The unlucky 4thplayer on 39 pts was Nick Abrahall (20) who had to settle for a Pro Ball as a result of the process. The two “all in” NTP prizes went to Brett McConnell (5) on the 6th and Karl Studd ((18) on 10th. Pro balls going down to 32 on C/B.

There was some excitement at the top of Thursdays leader board, with two players finishing with 38 pts. At the conclusion of the c/b procedure it was Ray Evans (24) who was awarded the hard fought win from Gerry McMullan (20). Ray is one of those great club men, who gets to play golf at every opportunity and this win is one many over a long and distinguished golf career. Mick Crae (3) was the second r/u player with a credible 36 pts. The NTP awards on Thursday went to Matt Katon (10) n the 1st, Damien Blair (9) on the 10th and Brad Moston (7) on the 17th.. Pro balls going down to 32 on c/b.

This coming Saturday the event will once again be a Single Stableford sponsored by Cromack & Tranter. On the 8th December the event will be the December Monthly Mug sponsored by Australia Pizza and will incorporate round one of the 2025/26 Bendigo Bank Simmer Consistency Trophy.
